NAPOLI!!

I have now been in Italy for a couple of weeks and I still enjoy every minute of it. This past Saturday just added to how much I love to travel around Europe. John had the weekend off and we took advantage of it. We spent all day Saturday sight-seeing and enjoying walking around Naples.

We got an early start on the day and caught the bus at 9:00. We had to drive to the main gate of base then walk out of the gate to catch the bus to the train station. Then we took the train on into Naples, it was about a 30 – 45 min train ride, so not bad at all. Then the fun started. We were kind of lost at the beginning but John had been down there one other time so he sort of remembered where some things were. We got to see a huge church with some amazing art work, a castle, and wonderful views of the coast line.
Duomo ~ Cappella San Gennaro
This Church is huge, and it is in the middle of town surrounded by other buildings and appartments
The art work in this church is unreal...i cant wait to go to the sistene chapel and see what it is like
There were paintings from floor to ceiling. These are some of the ones on the ceiling.

Walking down the street by the church

Not sure what this statue was

Castle Nuovo

Where the moat used to be now it is a parking area. They have weddings and gatherings at this castle. There was a wedding happening while we were there.
A view while climbing up through the castle

The Bronze Door
During one of the battles, the door was hit by an iron cannon-ball and that cannon-ball still remains in the door, (towards the bottom). This battle happened in 1495
More pictures from the next floor up

Looking up at one of the towers
View from the top floor
Not sure what this is but it looks like a fort type area or another house, they were on the top of a hill that overlooked the castle
