Gibraltar!

That Thursday John and I decided to drive down to Gibraltar and check it out. Gibraltar is also known as “The Rock,” and is a British Territory. They are mostly known for their shopping and views. This was probably my favorite part of the whole trip.

A lake on the drive to Gibraltar. Gibralter was about 2 hours away from Rota and the drive went by a few different lakes and through the mountains.

The Rock ~ The sun was shining pretty much all the way there, then when we got to Gibraltar it was cloudy and only over that area.

These four Russian Guns captured in the Crimea 1854-1856 were presented to Gibraltar by the British Government 1858.

Gibraltar Monkeys or Barbary Apes are a top tourist attraction in Girbaltar. I heard we saw them during nap time so they were not very active, but I was told that they can by kind of mean, and they steal things from the tourists.

They are used to human interaction and one guy in Rota told John that one of the monkeys stole some of his money.

This doorway was believed to have been brought from the Parish Church of Villa Vieja, the oldest part of the town, badly damaged in the 1727 seige and later demolished to make Casemates Square.

Trafalgar Cemetary ~ Here lie the remains of some who died of wounds at Gibraltar after Nelson's great victory in October 1805. Those killed in the battle were burried at sea.

We drove back to Spain and along the coast a little bit to see the views of the east side of Gibralter

It was very windy that day so this kite surfer was not having any problems getting going

Some little cabanas and chairs set up on the beach, I wish we had been there in the summer when we could have enjoyed the beach

You can kind of see the outline of Africa in this picture. You could see the outline really good in person, but it was really hazy that day so the pictures didn't turn out that good
