Grand Lake

March 17-18
Wednesday everyone woke up really excited again or as excited as you can be at 6:30 in the morning. We were on our way up to Grand Lake to play around on snowmobiles all day. Grand Lake is about a 2 hour drive from the hotel, most people besides the drivers of each car slept on the way up. When we got there we all got fitted for boots and helmets and learned about the snowmobiles then we were off. We had them rented for the whole day (until 4:30) so we took sandwich stuff with us for lunch.

The morning started off kind of slow, some of the snowmobiles we had rented were liquid cooled, which means the snow has to be thrown up by the track. Well it was getting hot during the day and freezing at night so the top of the snow was pure ice so the track wasn’t throwing up snow to cool them off. We had to stop about every 20 minutes or so and let them cool down.

After lunch the ice and snow was melting so we were in good shape to have some fun. We only had one major problem the whole day and it was after lunch. Casey and his son Gunner were riding over some bumps and ended up breaking a shock. We called down to the office told them where we were and in about 15 minutes they were there with a replacement.

The best part of the whole day was the last place we went called Super Chicken Hill. It was this really steep hill that you could climb straight up then do a U turn and head straight back down. There were only a few of us that were brave enough to do it but it was so much fun. Even Jaide had a blast on that hill, she was riding with dad so he gave her a pretty good run all day.

When we got back to the hotel Megan, Don, Bri, John and I all got ready and went over to the restaurant right by the hotel, El Rancho. It was a Bar/Restaurant and it was St. Patricks day so we thought with it being a bar they would have something going on. Well we thought wrong, the restaurant was pretty dead, and not much going on. So we ate and went back to the hotel and got some sleep before out last day on the slopes.

Thursday morning we woke up and headed to the mountain for our last day of skiing. The last day everyone but Jaide and Skout were able to go up the mountain. Jaide was not happy about staying in Ski School another day but from what I heard she did really good, and they said Skout had it down by the end of that day also. So hopefully they will both be able to go up with us next year. Megan and Don also went up but they stayed on some of the smaller easier slopes rather than going to the top of the mountain with us.

We closed the mountain down for the last time that trip then headed into Winter Park (town) to do a little shopping. We were in a little bit of a hurry though because we had to get back down the mountain to the rental place to turn in all the skis. Then we were going to eat at Subway and when we got there Megan, Don, John and I were already ordering when we found out that they only had 2 types of bread. The four of us went ahead and ordered but they rest of the group headed back to Evergreen and ate at Wendy’s. Then a group of us met up in the hot tub for a couple of hours.
