Day 17 - Flying Home

July 8
The time came, when it was time for Bri to head back to the states. I think part of her was really ready to be home, but I do think she really enjoyed her time out here. Little did we know what the day had in store for us. To start off Shannon had agreed to go with us to Rome, to drop her off so that I wouldn't have to make the drive back home by myself.

Well, Bri's flight was at 11:30am so we decided we needed to leave the house around 7:30 so that would give us 2 hours to drive and get her to the airport 2 hours early. By the time we finally got everything loaded and got some Euro for the trip we left at 8:00, only 30 min late. The drive was going good until we got about 30 min away from the airport and we ran into traffic.

We ended up sitting in traffic for forever, so when we finally got to the airport it was already 11:00 so we knew she had missed her flight but she still wanted to try so Shannon agreed to drop us off and she would wait for me to get back. So we stopped at what we thought was the right terminal so we got out and tried to find her counter to check-in and realized we were at the wrong terminal. The terminal she needed was not even connected to the main part of the airport.

We asked around and some guys told us we could walk to terminal 5 and it would only take a couple of mins. Boy where they wrong it took us a good 10 to 15 mins to walk over they, so we got there right at 11:30 and there was no one at the ticket counter. So we went to the information booth for American Airlines and there was no one there. We stood around for just a little bit and decided we needed to get back to Shannon and let her know what was going on.

We took the bus back to the main terminals and found Shannon she drove us back to Terminal 5 so we could figure out what we needed to do next. In the mean time I was on the phone with mom, and she was trying to get a hold of American to see what they told her.

When we got back to the American counter there was still no one around, so we asked around the main information place told us that all American representatives had left for the day. So, mom is on the phone with American and gets a flight to work with British Airways but Bri only had about 30 mins to get checked in.

We all got back in the car and headed back to the main terminal so she could get checked in. She barely made it in time but she did catch that flight. She had a layover in London, then had to spend the night in Boston. But after all that was said and done she made it back to Dallas the next morning where mom was there to pick her up.
